Since 1986, the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED) has helped businesses across 45 southern and eastern Kentucky counties find innovative solutions that inspire growth. The nonprofit organization, which is headquartered in Somerset, KY, invests in the region through small business lending, recruitment and expansion efforts and training.
Over the past 38 years, SKED’s nine-member staff of professionals has led an impact of providing more than 600 loans, worked to help create or retain some 11,000 jobs and provided more than 41,000 hours of free technical assistance and business counseling to entrepreneurs and small business owners across its service region.
SKED partners closely with the Kentucky APEX Accelerator to support businesses across the southeast Kentucky region that are interested in pursuing government contracting and subcontracting opportunities.
“Kentucky APEX Accelerator has been a great partner for SKED,” noted Brett Travers, Executive Director of SKED. “Their staff has worked with us to establish our Supplier Education & Economic Development (SEED) program. The entire staff functions seamlessly to make great things happen across our region. They’ve been a wonderful liaison, engaging with us to develop partnerships with several businesses and on a number of successful projects over the years.”
